Hello, I’m Marie and welcome to Gertie’s Bags.

Every since I can remember my hands have always been busy making things. When we were children my older sister and I were never allowed to utter the immortal words “I’m bored !!!”. We always had to find something to keep us occupied during evenings, weekends and school holidays. With my sister it was mainly drawing and art work. For me, it was needle and craft work.

Thankfully my Mam had a passion for needlework so she was my teacher. I wasn't the easiest of pupils to teach as I'm left handed and she was right handed. We managed, though some of my techniques, particularly crocheting, aren't found in any textbooks !!!

When I was at school I wanted to take my love of all things needlework further and become a needlework teacher. Sadly that never happened. At the end of my second year at senior school needlework was removed from the school national curriculum so that was that…

My love of bags started when I made my first patchwork bag using scraps of old fabric. That was it, I was hooked. The idea of setting up my own bag business came out of making bags as presents for friends. They kept asking for more so I thought why not see if others like them too.

One stipulation I had when it came to starting up 'Gertie's Bags' was that no two bags would be the same. There's something special about knowing you've got the only one of its kind in the entire world.

Buying from me

Thanks for taking time out to visit Gertie’s Bags. All of Gertie’s Bags are handmade and hand finished by me here in Sunderland. Everything is made to a high standard in a smoke and pet free environment.

All items are ready for shipping so will be dispatched within one/two working days. If there is a delay I will endeavour to contact you. Once your goods have been dispatched an email will be sent advising you that it is on its way. Items ordered in the UK will receive free p&p.

Returns Policy

You have 14 days, from receipt, to notify the seller if you wish to cancel your order or exchange an item.

Please note: Unless faulty, the following types of items are non-refundable: items that are personalised, bespoke or made-to-order to your specific requirements; personal items sold with a hygiene seal (cosmetics, underwear) in instances where the seal is broken.

Whilst every attempt is made to make sure the colours of the fabric in the photographs are as close to the original as possible, sadly there are times when colours can appear slightly different on computer screens. Please bear this in mind as I’d hate for you to be disappointed.

All sizes and measurements will be clearly detailed in the item descriptions so please make sure that item is suitable before ordering.

Unless the item is faulty it is the customer’s responsibility to pay for the return postage. Items must be unused and in original condition.
